Learning Objectives

1. Participant can describe at least 3 differences between sex and gender.

2. Participant can identify at least 1 personal strength they bring to their work with LGBTQIA+ clients.

3. Participant can identify two actionable skills for interacting with LGBTQIA+ clients in an affirming way.

4. Participant can identify at least 3 potential referral sources for LGBTQIA+ clients.

Summary of Program

LGBTQIA+ identities and experiences, which are diverse in themselves, exist alongside infinite possible racial, ethnic, geographical/national, and other identities community members hold. We
will review statistics that include results based on age, race, economic, and other identity categories to explore how these categories impact a person's experience of being LGBTQIA+. We will also discuss the relationship between colonization, white supremacy, homophobia and transphobia.

About the Presenter

Ellie's work as an individual and group therapist with queer and trans communities is informed by their social location as a white, queer, nonbinary trans person. Ellie works from a relational and psychodynamic perspective grounded in harm reduction and trauma theory, centering the resilience and expertise of their clients.
